If there is anything that comes to mind when discussing the subject of mental health services in England and Wales, it would be Mind. Since its foundation decades ago, Mind has taken up the mantle of championing mental health awareness and supporting individuals with mental problems.

History of Mind

Mind began as an organisation in 1946, right after the conclusion of the Second World War. The organisation started under the name of the National Association for Mental Health (NAMH).

At that time, society had a very limited understanding of mental well-being, and it was heavily influenced by the concept of institutionalisation of such patients.

The organisation was renamed into “Mind” in 1972, which marked a turning point when people felt more free to talk about their issues and were becoming much more open about mental health.

For decades now, Mind has been involved in many activities aimed at making life easier for patients struggling with their minds, as well as raising awareness of the issue among other people.

The charity helped to create new policies regarding mental health, provided different kinds of services (helpline, local support, etc.), and developed an online community for such patients.

In conclusion, today the organisation Mind is still a major force that helps people deal with their issues related to psychological well-being. It has been in business for more than 75 years now, which speaks volumes about its importance for our society.
