CBT, short for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is the recommended form of treatment for depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. CBT works on the principal that our thoughts (or cognitions) affect the way that we feel and the things that we do.
At Clear Mind CBT, we aim to help you develop a different way of thinking which has a positive effect on both emotions and responses, which in turn will help you to overcome your difficulties. Be sure to get in contact to see how we can better assist you.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy, is a form of psychotherapeutic treatment recommended by NICE guidelines as a specialist treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
When we experience a traumatic event, our brain can sometimes struggle to adequately process what we have experienced due to the high levels of emotional distress.
When this occurs, our brain becomes ‘stuck’ in processing the event and is unable to shelve it within our memory network like normal every-day experiences.
Despite the event being historic, if the memory is not adequately processed, it can trigger a range of emotions and difficulties in the present – such as anxiety, panic, fear, low mood, low self-esteem and poor sleep. For some, it can feel as though the threat is very current and they are reliving the traumatic event over and over, despite the event being in the past.
EMDR therapy involves identifying specific, unprocessed, traumatic memories and associated images that may require help to fully process.
By exploring the memory, imagery and negative cognitions alongside utilising bilateral sensory input movements (e.g. side to side eye movements), this stimulates and supports your brain in processing the traumatic event fully within the brain’s memory network.
By processing the traumatic event in this way, the psychological distress and associated symptoms experienced improve significantly. NICE recommends 8-12 sessions of EMDR for a single event trauma.
At Clear Mind, we have two highly experienced and dedicated EMDR therapists, Hannah and Louise. If you would like to find out more about EMDR and how it can help you, please get in touch. Be sure to get in contact below so see how we can best assist you, there’s no obligation.
Each CBT or EMDR session lasts 50 minutes, giving you focused time to explore your thoughts, develop new strategies, and work collaboratively with your therapist toward meaningful change. Sessions are structured but supportive, with space to reflect, ask questions, and set goals at a pace that works for you.
The fee for a 50-minute one-to-one CBT session is £150.00 inclusive of VAT. We understand that investing in your mental health is a significant commitment, and we aim to provide a high standard of care through accredited, professional therapy tailored to your needs.
We offer weekday and evening CBT sessions to suit your lifestyle and commitments. Whether you prefer therapy during the working day, early morning, or in the evening, we aim to provide times which fit around your schedule. Our goal is to make accessing therapy as convenient and stress-free as possible.
The number of CBT sessions required varies from person to person. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (4–6 sessions), especially when working on a specific issue like phobias, mild anxiety, or stress management. Others may require longer-term support to explore more complex or long-standing difficulties such as depression, trauma, or chronic worry. What’s most important is that therapy is tailored to you.
Your therapist will regularly review your progress with you, and together you’ll decide on the right pace and length of treatment. Whether you need just a few sessions or more ongoing support, CBT offers a structured and flexible approach to help you achieve your goals.
