Our Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and what to expect?

You’re not alone. Our FAQ page is here to provide clear, honest answers to the most common queries we receive about our therapy services. Whether you’re wondering how CBT works, how many sessions you might need, or how to book an appointment, you’ll find helpful information to guide you.

How does CBT work?

CBT focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.

By learning to challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier ones, you can create positive behavioural.

changes and improve emotional well-being.

What can CBT help with?

CBT is highly effective for a wide range of mental health challenges, including:

  • Anxiety (including social anxiety, panic, phobias)

  • Depression and low mood

  • Stress and burnout

  • OCD

  • PTSD

  • Health anxiety

  • Low self-esteem

  • Sleep problems

  • Perfectionism and overthinking

Where are you based?

We have our own therapy space on Haywra Street, in central Harrogate, this is just a few minutes’ walk from both the bus and train stations and there is free parking nearby. We can offer phone or video appointments to people anywhere in the UK.

How much do sessions cost?

We realise it can be anxiety provoking for a lot of people to discuss fees so we like to be transparent with our fees. Sessions cost £150 for a 50-minute appointment. All prices are inclusive of VAT. If you’re not sure if CBT is going to be helpful to you then we would be happy to offer a free brief conversation over the phone to discuss further and there would be no obligation to take up sessions.

What ages do you work with?

We work with anyone aged 11 years and above.

Do you offer video appointments?

Yes. We offer appointments face to face and by video or phone. Some people opt to have a mixture of these which offers convenience and flexibility. Please get in touch if you would like any further information on this.

Will our sessions be confidential?

Yes, everything we discuss will be kept confidential. The only time this confidentiality would be broken is in the interests of safety, if we felt you were either a risk to yourself or other people. We also have regular supervisions to discuss clients but we would not use your full name and supervisors are bound by the same confidentiality agreement.

Why should I choose you as my therapist?

It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist so we would always recommend looking at a couple of different therapists and their websites before making a decision. Most importantly, choose a therapist who is accredited with the BABCP. You can search the therapist’s name here https://www.cbtregisteruk.com/ to ensure that whoever you choose is fully qualified and regulated.

Can my insurer cover the cost of sessions?

Always check you individual policy but we work with people covered by WPA, Healix and Cigna, amongst others. Please get in touch with any questions regarding specific providers.

What can I expect in a typical CBT session?

In a typical session, we’ll explore current challenges, identify unhelpful thoughts or beliefs, and work together on strategies to shift them. You may receive exercises or reflections to practice between sessions to reinforce what we cover.

Client Testimonials

“I would thoroughly recommend anyone to use this service and can’t thank you enough. Last night I suddenly thought I am feeling really positive and happy and that is so much nicer than feeling anxious. I fully intend to have more positive and happy feelings in the future.”

Client Seen For Anxiety Issues

“Whilst working with Andrew I experienced a death in the family which was traumatic and unexpected. I am very grateful I was being treated by Andrew at this time as he helped me to manage my grief and keep myself feeling as well as possible. Since my sessions have ended I still remember the things we have spoken about and have continued to push myself to do things I feel anxious about, knowing that over time these anxieties will decrease.”
